I have my gggrandfather's marriage cert. He was a slate quarrier in Talysarn who married at age 19 in 1872. I assume he needed father's consent as he was under 21. A stranger's name is given under father column. Is it possible someone such as a colleague or employer or friend could have been entered as father? Is this usual? I have never encountered it before.

Researching Appolonia Jones, nee Williams (I think) born about 1838. Birth place given on 1891, 1901 and 1911 census returns is Amlwch, Anglesey but Pentraeth, Anglesey is given as birth place on 1861 and 1881 census. The 1871 census gives her birth place as Llanddeiniolen.

I am in the course of resaearching historical aspects of Y Felinheli or Port Dinorwic as it was previously known as. In particular I have come across reference to YR Hen Felin and, on the 1861 census, Mill House, Menai Hill. This is located immediately on the left as you enter Felinheli and next to where the railway bridge used to cross the main road. No such building is shown on Tithe maps, for example. Any suggestions as to the type of mill that this could be will be greatly appreciated.

My great great great grandfather was John Hughes and he was baptised in Dolgellau in Oct 1817. His parents were John Hughes and Margaret (nee Roberts) who were listed as living in London. I am completely stuck in tracing either of his parents apart from their marriage - although I do know that Margaret had a sister called Ann who married a Morris Griffiths. Both Margaret and Ann's marriages took place in the city of London.I am really curious as to why they were in Dolgellau - did they come from there originally? If anyone could help I'd be really grateful.
