| In 1974 three counties were amalgamated to form the new county of Gwynedd. Gwynedd had been the traditional name for the region. Recent reorganization of Local Government has divided Gwynedd again into smaller counties. For a period the counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Meirionnyddshire were united. The Gwynedd Family History Society was formed during this period and continues to promote interest in the genealogy of these three counties as well as Conwy. | |
